AEHL U17 AAA Playoffs – Round 1 Recap

With the semi-finals on the horizon in the Alberta Elite Hockey League’s U17 AAA division, here’s how the last round shook up for all 16 teams in action.


North Division

Knights of Columbus Centennials def. Parkland Saints, 2-0

The Centennials narrowly swept the Saints by scores of 5-4 and 4-3. Game 1 was an overtime victory with KC goals from Zachary Emsley (2), Dante Mauro (2) and William Knox. Adrian Mercer (2), Dawson Butler and Logan Findlay scored for Parkland in the loss. Game 2 saw Centennials goals from Knox (2), Tailon Scott and Taylor Reimer. The Saints had goals from Mercer, Findlay and Ethan Hogman in the loss.

LJAC Techmation Oil Kings def. SSAC United Cycle Bulldogs, 2-1

LJAC took Games 1 and 3 by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 to win the series, while the Bulldogs scraped out a 3-2 Game 2 win. Game 1scoring came from Luke Ridgway (2), Ordell Saddleback Jr, Rhett Schwab, Curtez Giroux and TJ Terpsma for the Oil Kings, with Kieran Kitteringham, Nash Holmes and Lucas Phillips responding for SSAC. The Game 2 win for the Bulldogs saw goals from Reid Trudgeon, Shamus Fechner and Miron Borodin, with Schwab and Terpsma replying for LJAC. The series clinching game for LJAC featured scoring from Saddleback Jr (2), Giroux, Terpsma, Schwab and Ethan Gariepy. Edward Chen and Alexander Chorney replied for SSAC.

St. Albert Raiders Flyers def. MLAC Beverly Optimist Leafs, 2-0

Finn Werner recorded back to back shutouts as the Flyers swept the Leafs by scores of 4-0 and 6-0. In Game 1, Nolan Bisson (2), Dylan Karran and Tristan Hwang all scored. Game 2 saw Hyunseo Shin (2), Bisson, Dylan Warwaruk, Ty Domshy and Macklen Popke find the back of the net in the win.

St. Albert meets LJAC in the semi-finals.

Sherwood Park Squires def. CAC Gregg Distributors, 2-0

Sherwood Park handily swept CAC, winning Game 1 by a score of 6-1 and Game 2 by a score of 5-2. In Game 1, Jett Quaschnick scored CAC’s only goal, and Sherwood Park responded with goals from Riley Deakin (2), Devon Boyle (2), Ryder Dalke and Tristan Slywka. Game 2 saw Squires goals scored by Slywka (2), Boyle, Braiden Jiwa-York and Matthew Simpson, while Nathan Cabral and Jack Dawson scored for CAC in their loss.

Sherwood Park meets the Centennials in the semi-finals.


South Division

Calgary Flames def. Red Deer North Star Chiefs, 2-0

The Flames swept the Chiefs with 5-1 and 5-2 victories. Game 1’s victory saw Flames offense from Joshua Carreiro (2), Eligh Bogen, Evan Benoit and Dylan Snelgrove. Cameron Jaster was the lone goal scorer for Red Deer. In Game 2, Josh Larson (2), Daniel Betcher, Zachary Anderson and Roman Maudie scored in the Flames win, while Cohen Carlson and Ryder Wicks had the goals for the Chiefs.

Airdrie Cannex Avalanche def. Calgary Bulls, 2-0

Airdrie swept the Bulls in two games, 5-2 and 4-3. Game 1 featured Avalanche goals from Jaden Piper (2), Landyn Scribner, Ethan Cameron McGregor and Sullivan Kufflick, while Calgary’s goals came from Ryder Mcaslan and Seth Garofalo. Airdrie’s Game 2 win saw goals scored by Piper, Cameron McGregor, Morgan Page and Grady Carmichel, while the Bulls responded with goals from Garofalo, Lucas Majdell and Aidan Sexsmith.

Calgary Royals def. Calgary Northstars, 2-0

The Royals defeated the Northstars 2-1 in both of their games to sweep the series. In Game 1, Samuel Craig was the overtime hero for the Royals, and Adam Savage Keller scored in regulation. Jordan Lafleur scored the only goal for the Northstars. In Game 2, Savage Keller scored both goals in the series clinching victory for the Royals, while Jayden Chan scored the Northstars’ lone goal.

The Royals take on the Flames in the semi-finals.

South East Tigers def. Okotoks Oilers, 2-0

The Tigers defeated the Oilers 4-3 and 5-3 to win the series in two games. In Game 1, the Tigers had goals from Randen Collier, Treyden Kleinknecht, Elijah Fleck and Colby Gulliver in the win. Gavin Wrathall (2) and Sean Milford scored for the Oilers. Game 2’s series clinching win featured scoring from Gulliver, Kleinknecht, Karter Kurpjuweit (2) and Tate Bowal. Wrathall (2) and Braxton Alaric scored for Okotoks.

South East faces off against Airdrie in the semi-finals.
